Research uncovers the role of terpenes and hormones in flower fragrance regulation of Chinese rose, indicating various environmental impacts.
Abstract Rose is the number one cut flower in China, with an average annual sales of more than 10 billion. Rose is liked by people not only because of its beautiful flower shape, but also because of its aromatic smell. Spices made from rose also have high economic value. Recent studies have shown that Chinese rose floral aroma substances are generally produced by terpenes, phenylpropanoids/benzene rings and fatty acid derivatives, and it has been proved that transcription factors participate in the floral aroma synthesis process. Different varieties of rose have their own genes controlling the location, period and circadian rhythm of floral fragrance synthesis and release. Besides various internal factors, the fragrance of Chinese rose is also regulated by environmental factors and hormones. Altitude, climate, light and gibberellin will all affect the fragrance of Chinese rose, which makes the fragrance of Chinese rose different. Flower fragrance not only affects the ornamental value of flowers, but also affects the reproduction and pollination of flowers to a certain extent. Some components can also affect the adaptability of plants to adversity. In this paper, the molecular mechanism and research progress of flower aroma regulation in Chinese rose were summarized, and the germplasm resources and breeding process of Chinese rose were summarized. The molecular mechanism of flower aroma synthesis regulation in Chinese rose was studied, and the regulation of flower aroma synthesis and release in Chinese rose was discussed. The future research development was prospected.
