Review highlights equine therapy's impact on executive function in children with autism spectrum disorder, suggesting it as an effective intervention.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects around 1 in 36 children today (Ghorayshi, 2025). It is often associated with having various cognitive and developmental deficits, impacting the ability to thrive in academic and social settings. Executive function (EF) is a specific skill that heavily impacts various cognitive processes and is also one of the main cognitive deficits in ASD. Equine therapy has been shown to improve EF skills in other disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyper Activity (ADHD) disorder, making it a prime intervention for improving EF in ASD. This review dives into equine therapy as an intervention for children with ASD with a careful examination on impacts in EF.
