Case report reveals IEFVPTC diagnosis in a 47-year-old woman, highlighting histopathological implications and WHO 2022 guidelines.
Abstract Invasive encapsulated follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (IEFVPTC) represents a distinct thyroid neoplasm characterized by encapsulation, follicular architecture, and papillary nuclear features. It shares a RAS-like molecular profile with follicular adenomas and carcinomas, contrasting with BRAFV600E-driven classical papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTC). We present a case of a 47-year-old female with a TIRADS-4 nodule, initially categorized as atypia of undetermined significance on fine-needle aspiration cytology, subsequently diagnosed histologically as IEFVPTC with limited vascular invasion. This case highlights the clinical relevance of careful histopathological classification per the 2022 WHO update and underlines the prognostic implications of subtyping and molecular correlations.
