Direct one-pot synthesis improves aryl iodide yields in common solvents, suggesting an efficient approach.
Aryl(TMP)iodonium triflates are potentially useful reagents for metal-free arylation reactions. However, current syntheses require anion exchange reactions from the corresponding tosylate salts, which require additional time, materials and cost. Herein, we describe a direct, one-pot method to synthesize aryl(TMP)iodonium triflates by using triflic acid as one of the reagents; >20 examples are described in yields ranging between 55-90%. Additionally, we provide a comparison of solubility of aryl(TMP)iodonium salts in common organic solvents.
