Implementation of a bidirectional smart infusion pump improved medication safety and efficiency in hospitals, suggesting transformative IoT-enabled clinical practices.
This study implemented a bidirectional smart infusion pump system across three TMU Health hospitals, enhancing medication safety, workflow efficiency, and reducing nurse workload. The system intercepted 238 patient-drug mismatches, minimized manual input errors, and saved 3,749 nursing hours. Its integration with EMRs enabled real-time monitoring and documentation. Findings demonstrate the system's scalability and potential to transform clinical practice through IoT-enabled solutions.
