The convergence of cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) has significantly promoted digital ecosystems, enabling scalable, intelligent, and interconnected infrastructures across diverse sectors. However, this integration introduces multifaceted cybersecurity risks that threaten data integrity, system availability, and user privacy. This review explores the foundations of cloud and IoT technologies, highlighting their convergence and the resulting benefits across industries. It further investigates emerging cybersecurity threats, including data breaches, insecure APIs, device hijacking, and cross-layer vulnerabilities. Advanced protective mechanisms—including zero-trust architectures, AI-based threat detection, blockchain, and post-quantum cryptography—are analyzed as potential solutions. The paper also examines global cybersecurity standards, regulatory frameworks, and key implementation challenges, including scalability, device heterogeneity, and real-time threat detection. By identifying current knowledge gaps and offering actionable recommendations, this work aims to guide stakeholders in securing cloud-IoT environments and addressing future cybersecurity challenges.
