This research demonstrates fluid and porosity distribution in Hugin Formation reservoirs using CPEI and PEIL attributes.
Curved Pseudo Elastic Impedance (CPEI) and Pseudo Elastic Impedance for Lithology (PEIL) are rock physics attributes extracted from seismic data. This research aims to estimate fluid and porosity distribution in Hugin Formation reservoir at Volve Field using CPEI and PEIL attributes. The available data are eight well log data and 3D partial angle stack seismic data which are used to create a Rock Physics Template (RPT) and to run seismic inversion. The cross-plot of Acoustic Impedance (AI)-Vp/Vs logs shows that CPEI attribute can separate oil sand from wet sand, while the PEIL attribute is related to porosity. To obtain the CPEI and PEIL volume, AI and Vp/Vs ratio volumes are derived using simultaneous inversion. From CPEI and PEIL volume, it can be concluded that in Hugin Formation, low CPEI values indicate the presence of hydrocarbons and high CPEI values indicate high water saturation. Meanwhile Low PEIL values correlate with high porosity and high PEIL values correlate with low porosity. These conclusions are proven by well log analysis in the study area.
