Case report details neurological symptoms and aortic aneurysm in a French bulldog, suggesting spirocercosis involvement.
Spirocercosis was diagnosed in an 11‐month‐old French bulldog initially presenting with multifocal neurological signs and blindness. Magnetic resonance imaging identified multifocal intracranial and intramuscular facial lesions, with a mixed pleocytosis identified upon cerebrospinal fluid analysis. The patient progressed to develop severe, diffuse oedema of the thoracic limbs, sternum, neck and head. Thoracic radiography and computed tomography identified an aortic aneurysm and caudal thoracic vertebral spondylitis suggestive of spirocercosis. The patient was euthanased due to worsening peripheral oedema and postmortem findings confirmed nematodes within the aortic and oesophageal wall, which was consistent with Spirocera lupi infection.
