Analysis of crosstalk from XPM in an SCM-WDM link shows that higher optical power increases degradation, suggesting careful design considerations.
Abstract In this manuscript the consequences of crosstalk caused by XPM in an SCM–WDM optical link with higher order dispersion (HOD) coefficients are investigated. Couple equations have been used to evaluate the performance of the communication link. When the optical power is increased, a noticeable rise in crosstalk caused by XPM has been observed. Although 3OD, 4OD, and 5OD have less of an influence than 2OD, they nevertheless contribute when considered collectively. The crosstalk caused by XPM rises with the addition of 2OD, 3OD, 4OD, and 5OD parameters. The findings indicate that when optical power changes from 2 to 50 mW, the XPM-induced crosstalk levels are as follows: (-75.01 to − 31.04) dB, (− 140.1 to − 72.1) dB, (− 220.6 to − 147.3) dB, and (− 325 to − 231.7) dB for 2OD, 3OD, 4OD, and 5OD respectively. Additionally, when considering combined dispersion orders such as (2OD + 3OD), (3OD + 4OD), and (4OD + 5OD), the XPM-induced crosstalk values are (-99.89 to -70.7) dB, (-139.6 to -104.2) dB, and (-189.9 to -146.3) dB respectively. The XPM crosstalk for the combinations (2OD + 3OD + 4OD + 5OD) and (3OD + 4OD + 5OD) varies between (-104.9 to -79.8) dB and (-134.3 to -102.6) dB respectively.
