The purpose of this research is to examine how the violation of the Maxim of Quality in the Truman Show plays a role in building the narrative and maintaining control over Truman. Using the qualitative descriptive method and focusing on the Maxim of Quality, this article examines how Grice’s Cooperative Principle is used in the film The Truman Show, specifically how purposeful communication manipulation influences Truman’s world vision. By reviewing essential conversations and interactions, this study shows how departures from conversational standards contribute to the film’s central themes of control, truth,and personal freedom, as well as the broader implications for media ethics and social manipulation.
