Systematic review finds laparoscopy lowers mortality in blunt abdominal trauma patients, suggesting treatment benefits.
Objective. To compare various treatment options (percutaneous or transluminal methods, laparoscopic, robotic and open surgery) in patients with blunt abdominal trauma. Material and methods. A systematic review was performed in accordance with PRISMA (2020) and AMSTAR (2017) recommendations. We analyzed non-randomized studies after January 1, 2016 and randomized ones without time limits until September 10, 2024. The eLibrary, PubMed, Cochrane library databases were screened. Results. Laparoscopy decreases mortality in hemodynamically stable/stabilized patients with abdominal trauma compared to laparotomy. At the same time, there is still insufficient evidence to speak about advantages of laparoscopy regarding lower mortality in these patients. There are insufficient data on percutaneous, transluminal and robotic methods. Conclusion. Further systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized clinical trials are necessary to obtain evidenced-based data.
