This review highlights issues in diagnosing somatoform disorders and self-stigmatization in patients, indicating a need for better awareness and consistency in treatment.
A broad review of foreign and domestic literature in the field of somatoform disorders is presented, which was based on the analysis of 45 publications on this topic. The publications were searched in the bibliographic databases RINC and Medline. The aim of this work was to objectify the current status of this group of diseases of neurotic register and to identify the main problems in the diagnosis of somatoform disorders. The problems of epidemiological estimation and prevalence of somatoform disorders are actualized, the phenomenon of self-stigmatization of patients with neurotic register disorder, coming from insufficient awareness and use of unreliable sources of information by patients, which in its turn leads to complications and more severe course of this group of diseases, is highlighted separately. Changes in diagnostic criteria according to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th and 11th revisions (ICD-10, ICD-11), as well as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th-TR and 5th edition (DSM–III, DSM–IV-TR and DSM–V) are shown. The conclusion notes the need for further study of the structure of somatoform disorders using different approaches and new methods of statistical analysis of clinical and epidemiological data, and also points out the imperfection of the multidisciplinary approach between specialists of somatic and psychotherapeutic profiles, which leads to later receipt of specialized medical care from psychiatrists and psychotherapists, as well as adversely affects the funding allocated to health care.
