Observational analysis improved raw water supply resiliency in Stillwater, indicating effective use of Lake McMurtry.
The City of Stillwater has a single raw water supply source (Kaw Lake) located nearly 40 mi away with 40-year-old conveyance assets at increasing the risk of failure. To improve the overall raw water system resiliency and redundancy, the City engaged Carollo to evaluate options for adding terminal storage. Carollo recommended using Lake McMurtry, located 7 mi from the WTP, for raw water storage. A new bi-directional raw water transmission main and pump station will allow the City to convey raw water to Lake McMurtry for storage and then pump it back to their WTP. Reservoir operations modeling, water quality blending analysis, and hydraulic evaluations were performed to confirm the viability of this proposed secondary raw water delivery system. This project will provide a raw water supply source in the event of a failure in the Kaw Lake raw water delivery system and allow for proactive maintenance and rehabilitation to substantially improve the City's overall raw water supply resiliency.
