Finite element simulation reveals a new damage characteristic index for enhanced damage localization in composite laminates, indicating effective ultrasonic interaction.
To study the interaction between ultrasonic guided waves and damage in composite laminate panels and achieve damage localization, a finite element simulation model was established. The interaction mechanism between guided waves and damage in laminate panels was analyzed. Based on this, this paper proposes a damage characteristic index based on the reciprocity of ultrasonic guided waves. The experimental results demonstrate that this index can effectively distinguish damaged paths from healthy paths. Finally, the proposed damage characteristic index is combined with the RAPID algorithm to achieve visual imaging of damage in composite laminate panels. Simulation analysis and experimental results fully validate the effectiveness and accuracy of this method in the study of damage localization in laminate panels.
