This research demonstrates photogrammetry enhances accuracy in measuring dam deformation, indicating effectiveness in long-distance monitoring.
In practical dam deformation monitoring, camera-based photogrammetry frequently grapples with precision challenges arising from image distortion errors and inaccuracies in camera extrinsic parameter calibration. This paper introduces a deformation measurement method that employs a fixed industrial camera as the primary sensor. Following the correction of image distortions, the deformation is determined directly within the image space coordinate system, factoring in the specific characteristics of dam deformation. Based on this methodology, a dam deformation monitoring system incorporating industrial cameras is implemented on a pilot project, and its accuracy in measuring deformation over long distances undergoes validation. Experimental findings demonstrate that the displacement trends observed in target monitoring and the mobile platform align, with a mean error of less than 1.3 mm at a distance of 250 m and less than 2.6 mm at a distance of 510 m.
