Analysis highlights challenges of integrating new infrastructure and utilities in urban environments, suggesting potential solutions.
Large cities go through constant change, wanting to improve their infrastructure for their citizens. While most people focus on the improvements they can see, a few people stop and think about the impacts that new infrastructure can have on existing underground utilities. This project consists of performing a study on the impact of existing water and wastewater utilities associated with the beautification and improvements of an existing creek throughout a major City in Northeast Florida. This project required a comprehensive review of the existing utilities in the area, including water mains, force mains, gravity sewer lines, and chilled water mains, to evaluate the feasibility and associated cost for the necessary utility adjustments. This paper addresses the challenges of integrating new infrastructure and locating existing utilities in a complex urban environment.
