Research demonstrates enhanced marshal stability and reduced flow values in asphalt mixes with marble dust and silica fume.
Asphalt pavements are used extensively in Pakistan due to its outstanding smoothness, low noise level, practicality, and ease of maintenance. However, rutting, translation, bleeding, shoving, bulging, and cracking, aging, and other ailments brought on by pavement use are also difficult problems which leads to significant maintenance expenses. But in this era of globalization, sustainable development has taken center stage in addition to traditional development. Therefore, in this research to overcome waste products two byproduct materials are used as fillers namely marble dust and silica fume, to enhance the properties of asphalt mix. In this research, first the optimum bitumen content was found out to be 3.86% and then different percentages of both materials were used from 2% to 10% with interval of 2% by aggregate mix weight process. After making samples, marshal stability and flow values were determined. The result showed, in terms of marble dust, up to 8% value of marshal stability increased and flow value decreased. Similarly, in the case of silica fume, 6% gave the highest and lowest values of marshal stability and flow respectively. Furthermore, research can be carried out by finding other properties of asphalt mix.
