Case study demonstrates effective use of 3D printing waste in jewelry, suggesting sustainability in contemporary design.
Contemporary jewelry has been focusing on sustainability issues, using new materials in addition to precious metals and gemstones. Additive manufacturing still suffers from problems with printing waste and its disposal. Therefore, this is an opportunity for designers to see this material as an opportunity for recycling and use as a raw material for jewelry. In this sense, this article, through a case study, aims to substantiate aspects about contemporary jewelry and additive manufacturing, as well as to present the process and results of the production of a piece of jewelry with polymeric gemstones made from PLA waste from 3D printing. The result is pieces with high added and market value.
