The article is devoted to the issues of preserving the aesthetic value of historical cities in the context of globalization. The analysis is based on specific examples of Russian and European cities. In the modern era, when work is actively underway to reconstruct old buildings and construct new ones, the issue of forming an aesthetically harmonious urban environment becomes especially important. However, this task is accompanied by a number of contradictions and conflicts. Difficulties are associated not only with the integration of historical and modern architecture, but also with different approaches to the aesthetic organization of space, where the preservation of architectural heritage plays a key role.
