Research reveals fruit and seed morphology of hibiscus in Brazil, highlighting unique characteristics and implications.
Hibiscus × rosa‐sinensis L. is a species cultivated worldwide and is considered extinct in the wild. However, studies focusing on fruit and seed morphology are rare, as they are extremely rare in nature. In this study, we provide the first description of the fruits and seeds based on live and herbarium specimens from some samples growing in Brazil, with particular emphasis on the seed coat. Scanning electron microscopy was used to analyze the seeds. The results indicate that the fruit is a loculicidal capsule and the seed is reniform with a reticulated seed coat with bi‐armed trichomes.
