Performance evaluation shows optimal warm mix asphalt with rubber powder lowers viscosity and improves properties.
This study examines the impact of seven different warm mix additives on the properties of rubber-modified asphalt. Through a comprehensive performance evaluation, the optimal formulation was identified as warm mix asphalt modified with nitrile rubber powder, which demonstrated excellent low- and high-temperature properties while exhibiting reduced viscosity. The performance of warm mix asphalt and hot mix asphalt was tested at various mixing temperatures utilizing porosity-compaction temperature curves. The study revealed the appropriate mixing and paving temperatures for warm mix asphalt, which were found to be 20°C lower than those of hot mix asphalt. Additionally, the warm mix asphalt’s overall performance improved, especially in terms of its low-temperature qualities, as the mixing temperature rose. This research offers both theoretical insights and practical guidance for advancing warm mix asphalt technology and optimizing pavement materials.
