Analysis reveals energy loss sources in the Strayton Generator Quad's Brayton cycle, suggesting efficiency improvements.
Researching combined cycles is essential for advancing turbo/hybrid-electric propulsion systems because they enhance energy efficiency, allowing engines to attain higher performance with less fuel and emissions. Using energy and exergy analyses, the effect of irreversibilities that occur throughout the Brayton portions of the Strayton Generator Quad Configuration are quantified. This analysis models He-Ar gas as the working fluid, incorporating 80% effective coolers and recuperator. It considers turbine and compressor efficiencies ranging from 50% to 95%, turbine inlet temperatures ranging from 1373.15 K to 2073.15 K, and pressure ratios spanning from 1.25 to 2.5. As a result of these variations, the analysis identifies key sources of useful energy loss and provides a systematic thermal evaluation of the system. By inputting specific operating parameters, this evaluation can generate corresponding performance results, making it directly applicable to defined operating conditions.
