Assessment reveals bird diversity and threats in a lake ecosystem during drought and agricultural pressure.

Bird community analysis found 73 species across 38 families, indicating significant ecological diversity.
A strong negative correlation was observed between water retreat and both specific richness (r= – 0.81) and abundance (r= – 0.87).
Field observations were conducted using punctuated route transects to assess bird species and environmental threats during a drought period.
Agricultural practices, fishing, and poaching threaten bird populations in this vital ecological area.

A 2025 study studied this question.
