Observational analysis reveals gaseous non-ideality impacts shock wave structures in fluids, indicating varying influences with Mach numbers.
Nonideal gas effects exist widely in shock wave problems such as dense gas, implosion, and magnetic fluids. Based on a recent study (Jiang H et al 2025 Eur. Phys. J. Plus 140 192) and the calculation method provided in the present study, the main objective of this study is to examine the effect of gaseous non-ideality on the shock wave structure and compare the characteristics of the effect under different Mach numbers. Post-shock, the results show that gaseous non-ideality has a greater effect on the velocity and density, less effect on the pressure and entropy change, and hardly any effect on the temperature. The larger the pre-shock Mach number, the greater the effect of gaseous non-ideality on shock wave structure parameters. With the exception of the shock thickness and entropy change, the variation in the structural parameters is affected by the pre-shock Mach number to varying degrees owing to gaseous non-ideality. The effects of gaseous nonideality on the shock compression mechanism and its effect law under different Mach numbers are revealed.
