This analysis examines the durability and strength of polymer composite materials, highlighting tensile and compression tests.
An approach to assess the durability of polymer composite materials, based on the kinetic concept of strength is presented. Examples of testing aircraft-grade carbon fiber-reinforced plastics for tension, compression and interlaminar shear under increasing loads and different loading rates are given. The structural state of carbon fiber-reinforced plastics is estimated by their inelastic characteristics which are a consequence of the same thermodynamic processes.
