Experimentally assessed strength in press-fit connections, indicating a method for evaluating critical loading conditions.
The possibility of non-destructive testing of press-fit connections with interference by means of strain gauges during mechanical testing is substantiated. For a press-fit connection of a ring with a shaft, the static uncertainty of the problem of elastic stress distribution in the connection was demonstrated experimentally and by the finite element modeling method, the effects of nonlinearity of deformations from the load and the level of residual deformations associated with the influence of friction stresses on the connection boundary were estimated. A method for assessing the strength of press-fit connections with an error no more than 10% is proposed, based on determining the critical load (65% of the ultimate strength) at which the linearity of the bearing ring deformations is violated.
