Simulation reveals effects of non-linearities on control valve performance, indicating potential improvements in control strategies.
Control valve has been widely used as final control element.Control valve performance is affected because of mechanical, and electrical faults and operator errors. These control valve faults induce nonlinearity causes performance degradation and instability. It is essential to gain a deeper understanding of the control valve nonlinearities and its impact on performance. This paper focuses on the simulation of a mathematical model of control valve for different values of coulomb friction, viscous friction and stiction friction. Using MATLAB, the control valve model response is observed for open and closed loop system. The control valve open-loop response and closed loop response demonstrate the effects of stiction and deadband on performance. The closed-loop response evaluates the performance of control strategies in mitigating the impact of stiction, providing insights for loop performance. Further experimental setup is developed to monitor performance of control valve. Pneumatic control valve is configured to DCS host system. Control valve trends are recorded for nonlinearities. Like simulation results deadband, stiction are observed for actual control valve. This paper provides valuable insights into the dynamics and behavior of control valve non-linearities.
