Quantitative analysis reveals significant negative influence of work family conflict on psychological well-being in single mothers, indicating need for support.
Single mothers are a group that faces dual challenges as they must simultaneously take on two roles: being the primary breadwinner and the main caregiver for their children. This condition has the potential to trigger work-family conflict, which refers to the conflict that arises when the demands of work and family roles are incompatible and difficult to fulfill at the same time (Greenhaus & Beutell 1985). The pressure from this conflict can affect psychological well-being, which is a state of mental wellness where individuals are able to accept themselves, build positive relationships, be autonomous, manage their environment, have a sense of purpose in life, and experience personal growth ((Ryff, Carol D. 1989).This study aims to examine the effect of work family conflict on psychological well-being among single mothers in Bandung City. The research used a quantitative method with a causal approach. The subjects consisted of 165 single mothers working in the formal sector, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected from primary sources using a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of two measurement tools: the work family conflict scale and the psychological well-being scale. Simple linear regression was used as the data analysis technique. The results showed that most respondents experienced high work family conflict and low psychological well-being. A significant negative effect was found between work family conflict and psychological well-being, with a contribution value of 31.6%.
