Service improved honey production by 20% in kelulut bee breeders, suggesting enhanced economic well-being.
Background: Kelulut bee cultivation is one of the programs developed through the Kampung Temenin Kota Tinggi Berhad Cooperative program in Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia, in collaboration with two universities: Universitas Bung Hatta, Indonesia, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. This service aims to introduce innovations in the manufacture of kelulut bee houses, utilizing cement fiber materials, to increase honey production and enhance the community's economic well-being in Temenin Village. Method: Service was carried out through socialization and training in the construction of kelulut bee houses made of ferrous cement for kelulut beekeepers. Result: The innovative use of ferrous cement creates a safe and conducive environment for bees, leading to increased honey production. The increase in honey production was 20%, resulting in 22 liters of honey from 55 logs. Conclusion: The use of ferrous cement as a material for making boxes and supporting kelulut hives makes beehive boxes stronger and safer from other animal disturbances. With good box conditions, the amount of honey produced by bees increases.
