Community initiative improves self-care capabilities in pregnant women and support personnel, indicating a need for ongoing empowerment efforts.
Background: Barriers to self-care practices among pregnant women include a lack of self-management support, insufficient knowledge and confidence, and limited access to appropriate healthcare services. Adequate self-care can improve quality of life and reduce healthcare costs. The purpose of this community service initiative is to enhance the capacity of support personnel (Posyandu cadres) and pregnant women to improve self-care during pregnancy in Gajah Mekar Village, Kutawaringin District, Bandung Regency—Methods: Education, training, mentoring, and ongoing mobilization. The activity began with the recruitment of support personnel, followed by training for Posyandu cadres, including educational sessions and mentoring. The mentoring aimed to improve the cadres' ability to support pregnant women in pregnancy care. Results: The program led to the formation of support cadres and pregnant women's groups, as well as increased knowledge among cadres and enhanced self-care skills among pregnant women. Conclusions: There is a need for ongoing coordination and monitoring as part of empowerment efforts to maintain the self-care capabilities of both support personnel and pregnant women during pregnancy to address pregnancy-related issues and prevent further complications.
