Finite element analysis shows reduced steel consumption in inter-module connections, indicating a shift in construction methods.
Modular steel buildings have the advantage of fast construction speed. However, the traditional connection forms adopt the form of multiple columns and multiple beams, which results in a large amount of steel usage. As a new type of connection, the inter-module connection between the staggered module elements avoids the structure form of multi-column and multi-beam, which is greatly reduced in steel consumption compared with the traditional modular steel connection. The mechanical properties of the staggered inter-module connection are not clear, so the finite element numerical simulation is carried out. This paper conducts a study on the bearing capacity of connections by using the finite element simulation method. Meanwhile, different parameters, such as the thickness of corner fitting and the diameter of bolts are set to investigate the influence of these parameters on the connections.
