This analysis shows enhanced thermal stability in silicone rubber using o-carborane and chemical cross-linking.
In this study, a silane coupling agent (BTPW) modified with o-carborane was synthesized, which can combine with -OH on the surface of SiO 2 to effectively improve the structural problem of SiO 2 and introduce o-carborane, a large rigid structure, into the silicone rubber system. In addition, Vi-POSS was introduced to synergistically modify the silicone rubber to investigate the effects of chemical cross-linking enhancement and inhibition of pyrolysis on the properties of the silicone rubber, and the TGA test showed that when the content of BTPW was increased from 0.5% to 1.5%, the mass retention increased from 75% to 77% at 800 °C, and after high temperature aging at 350 °C for 24 h, the tensile stress increased from 1.2 MPa to 2.4 MPa. The unique structural characteristics and chemical properties of carbon borane significantly improve the heat stability of silicone rubber.
