Analysis demonstrates effective flood regulation in pumped storage systems, suggesting safety for reservoirs and downstream areas.
Taking the existing hydropower station as the lower reservoir of a pumped storage power station, the superposition effect of power generation flow and natural flood may affect the safety of the reservoir dam and the inundation impact area after the pumped storage power station is put into operation. Taking the Pingshang Pumped Storage Power Station as an example, this article proposes the flood regulation principles for the post-construction of pumped storage power stations and compares various operating conditions to perform combined flood regulation calculations under the most unfavorable scenarios. Compared with the current flood regulation results of the Geliqiao Hydropower Station, after the completion of the Pingshang Pumped Storage Power Station, the maximum water level and maximum discharge flow before the dam of the Geliqiao Hydropower Station will not increase, and the inundation area of the reservoir will not expand.
