Numerical investigation reveals the impact of surface energy and particle size on dust deposition behaviors.
Airborne dust deposition has become a serious problem in many energy and environmental devices. Determining the single-particle deposition behavior may be helpful in designing the anti-dust surface. Hence, in this study, the single particle deposition behavior on different surfaces was numerically investigated. The lattice Boltzmann method and discrete particle model were used to predict the flow and particle deposition process. The contact model between the single particle surface was developed. The particle movement obtained from the present simulation was similar to the experimental measurement. The effects of the particle diameter, the surface energy, and Young’s modulus on particle deposition behavior were investigated in detail. In the computational cases, it can be found that the effects of particle diameter on rebound height may be more obvious than that of other parameters. The results showed that surfaces with low surface energy can greatly increase particle rebound behaviors. The results of this study may be helpful for dust deposition reduction in engineering applications.
