Numerical analysis reveals significant influence of wind speed and direction on aerodynamic and base loads in floating wind turbines.
In this paper, based on the fully coupled analysis method of floating wind turbine (FWT), the NREL 5MW wind turbine and OC4 semi-submersible floating platform are numerically modeled and analyzed. Considering the effects of different wind speeds and wind directions, the FWT dynamic responses are calculated. The results show that the wind speed and direction have a significant influence on the aerodynamic load as well as the tower base load.
