Finite element simulation reveals improved cutting performance with cooling in cast steel, suggesting optimized use of microtextured tools.
In this study, finite element simulation was used to evaluate the cutting performance of microtextured tools under cold temperature conditions. The results indicate that the combination of cooling with microtextured tools significantly reduced thermal and mechanical stresses during the cutting process of cast steel; the film condition for the cold air in the interface had a good impact on PCBN tool in term of temperature reduction, especially near the cutting edge, this process was proposed to enhance the laser assisted machining for hard to machine materials. This study lays the groundwork for further exploration into the integration of advanced optical systems and cooling technologies to push the boundaries of machining performance.
