Precision monitoring of spectral characteristics and nonlinearities in Mach-Zehnder modulators and photodetectors enhances communication systems.
Precision control of the transformation of the parameters of laser radiation in transmitters and detection of information in receivers is required in both analog and digital fiber optic lines, as well as in microwave photonic communication and sensor systems. Its effectiveness is determined mainly at the stage of monitoring the spectral characteristics of wideband amplitude Mach-Zehnder modulators and photodetectors and their nonlinearities. In addition, the actual control of the spectral characteristics of these devices is required to analyze their compliance with the manufacturing processes and identify possible manufacturing defects, such as width of photosensitive layer of detectors, a violation of the accuracy of the installation of modulator adapter boards, which causes "wave-like" spectral characteristics, or equipping broadband devices with microwave connectors with a smaller bandwidth, which leads to a noticeable drop in the spectral characteristics, as well as the appearance of resonant emissions in the spectral characteristics structure associated with their response to certain radio frequencies. In the paper we present the general characteristics of the tutorial "Microwave photonic spectral characteristics analyzers for wideband amplitude Mach-Zehnder modulators and photodetectors", it content, relevance, purpose, research objectives, scientific novelty and practical significance, research methods, reliability, implementation and introduction of the obtained results.
