Numerical analysis reveals hydrodynamic responses of an oscillating wave surge converter, indicating adaptive geometry enhances operational capacity.
This study numerically investigates the hydrodynamic responses of an oscillating wave surge converter (OWSC) with adaptive geometry. The OWSC consists of a vertical flap connected to a seabed foundation and a Power Take-Off (PTO) system. The flap can retract, allowing its geometry to be adaptively controlled. The hydrodynamic analysis is performed within the framework of linear potential wave theory, using the Boundary Element Method. Numerical results indicate that the adaptive geometry enables effective control over the excitation load, flap rotation, PTO load, and foundation load, potentially extending the device’s operational window.
