Experimental approach reveals techniques for oxidizing copper in jewelry, indicating value in recycling metals.
This article aims to experiment with the oxidation of copper sheets to introduce new techniques in the creation of a jewelry piece. Copper is a metal with increasing demand and numerous applications; it is present in wires, tubes, car engines and more. However, its ore is becoming increasingly scarce in nature. Through electronic waste, it was possible to obtain copper for oxidation tests and surface treatment. The results obtained provided inspiration for the creative process and the generation of alternatives. The choice of the piece to be materialized allowed oxidized copper to be a prominent element, even when combined with a noble metal such as silver. The use of metals derived from the recycling of other materials within contemporary jewelry is a practice that adds value and history to a piece.
