In the present article the author examines the issues of the foundation and formation of the Chersonese kinovia (since 1861 – the monastery) of St. Vladimir, which was an important part of the implementation of the churchstate project «Russian, or Crimean, Athos», developed by the Archbishop of Kherson and Tauride Innokenty (Borisov) and approved by Emperor Nicholas I. The article presents the search of the historical place where, according to the chronicle tradition, the future Baptist of Rus’, the Grand Prince Vladimir of Kyiv, adopted Christianity, and the difficult history of the construction of memorial church in Chersonese in honor of the most important event in Russian history
