Thermal treatment increases durability in 3D-printed ABS gears, suggesting potential for enhanced applications.
This article presents the results of research focused on increasing the durability of gears manufactured using FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) technology from ABS material. The gears underwent a thermal surface treatment involving the application of a hot air stream. During this thermal treatment, the gears rotated around their axis of rotation. This rotation prevented gravity-induced deformations that could otherwise occur during such processing. Comparative durability tests of the gears showed greater longevity for the thermally treated gears compared to those that were not modified.
