Evaluation reveals improved impact penetration resistance in epoxy composites using aramid fabric layers and orientation.
This study presents the effect of the number of layers, fiber orientation, and fabric weave on the impact penetration resistance of epoxy composites reinforced with aramid fabrics. Composites containing 4, 8, and 12 layers were fabricated, with both oriented and non-oriented reinforcement, using two types of weaves. The best results were achieved by laminates with oriented reinforcement and/or twill weave. Increasing the number of layers, applying orientation, and using twill weave improved resistance to impact penetration using the drop-weight method.
