Deep brain stimulation significantly improved symptoms of dystonia in a 74-year-old female patient with Meige syndrome after previous treatments failed to work.
After 52 weeks, notable reductions in involuntary blinking, photophobia, and neck tightness were observed following bilateral GPi DBS.
The patient had previously received botulinum toxin injections and various medications to manage her symptoms, but these were no longer effective.
DBS is suggested as a safe treatment option for managing Meige syndrome, but optimal parameters for targeting and programming remain to be established.
