This research reveals low-temperature impact properties of free-cutting steel wire rod, indicating suitability issues.
Addressing the development challenges of sulfur-containing free-cutting steel, this paper successfully developed 1215 environmentally friendly sulfur-containing free-cutting steel wire rod through reasonable process design and on-site control. This effectively avoided issues such as head splitting, slipping, and cracking during the rolling process, improved the yield rate, and achieved good results in terms of product mechanical properties and MnS inclusion control. Additionally, low-temperature impact tests were conducted on the 1215 sulfur-containing free-cutting steel wire rod at 0°C, -20°C, and -40°C. The test results indicated that as the test temperature decreased, the impact absorbed energy also decreased, with a significant drop at -40 ° C. The ductile-to-brittle transition temperature of 1215 sulfur-containing free-cutting steel is approximately -20 ° C. The low-temperature impact tests demonstrated that 1215 sulfur-containing free-cutting steel is not suitable for use in low-temperature environments.
