Analysis shows how cooling rate affects crystallization kinetics and structure of PET, indicating its material properties.
The crystallization kinetics behavior in non-isothermal process and crystal structure of low-viscosity fiber-grade polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The results showed that with the increase of cooling rate, the melt crystallization temperature shifted to a lower temperature, the crystallization rate constant (Zc) increased, the half-time of crystallization (t 1/2 ) decreased, and the Avrami exponent n value varied between 4.1 and 5.4. SAXS analysis revealed that higher cooling rates lead to a slight reduction in the long period and a decrease in the thicknesses of crystalline lamella.
