Laboratory analysis assessed cold stress tolerance in sugar beet lines, suggesting improved genotype selection methods.
The article presents an evaluation of resistance of breeding material of sugar beet lines developed as a result of selection on provocative to low positive temperature backgrounds. The evaluation of resistance to cold stress was carried out under laboratory conditions in temperaturecontrolled chambers. As a result of the conducted research, it was shown that in the process of selection under stress conditions of low temperatures the most balanced genotypes, able to tolerate stress of a certain intensity, survive. The ability of seeds to germinate at +7°C and the length of the sprout in relation to the unselected control variety were considered as the criteria for assessing resistance.
