Case report details symptomatic diaphragmatic eventration in a trauma patient, highlighting surgical plication's benefits.
Diaphragmatic eventration (DE) is a relatively rare condition in adults, characterized by abnormal, permanent elevation of a hemidiaphragm, often due to trauma or phrenic nerve injury. This case involves a 38-year-old male who developed symptomatic left-sided DE following a motor vehicle accident. Presenting with complaints of abdominal heaviness and respiratory discomfort, he underwent imaging studies that confirmed the eventration. Such cases often require surgical plication if symptomatic, which can provide significant relief by restoring normal diaphragmatic contour and improving respiratory function.
