This analysis demonstrates effects on availability and reliability in systems with standby components, suggesting new maintenance strategies.
Abstract Accurately modeling the dependability of complex systems with multiple standby modes and unreliable maintenance resources is a significant challenge. This paper addresses this by proposing a Markov Regenerative Stochastic Petri Net (MRSPN) framework for a system with active, warm, and cold standby com- ponents serviced by a single, breakdown-prone repairer. The model incorporates both corrective and preventive maintenance strategies and features a retrial (orbit) queue for units that find the repairer busy. We derive the steady-state availability from the underlying regenerative process and compute transient reli- ability measures via the Markov renewal equation. A sensitivity analysis is conducted to illustrate the effects of various parameters on system performance. Mathematics Subject Classification: 60K15 , 90B25, 60K20
