Skill development has emerged as a critical driver of employability and economic empowerment, particularly for women in rural India. This study evaluates the scope, implementation, and effectiveness of key government skill development schemes—such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), Udaan, and the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS)—in enhancing the career readiness of rural female students in Punjab. Using Mata Sundri Girls College, Dhade, Bathinda, as a case study, the paper reviews institutional initiatives, identifies barriers like gender norms, awareness gaps, and infrastructure deficits, and highlights policy limitations. The findings emphasize the need for localized, culturally responsive, and industry-aligned approaches to skill training. Recommendations include establishing Rural Skill Cells in colleges, strengthening industry linkages, and promoting hybrid learning models. With targeted reforms, skill development can transform the employment landscape for young rural women and foster inclusive economic growth.
