Qualitative literature review evaluates accurate diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, suggesting 99mTc-Trodat-1 may enhance early detection.
Parkinson's disease is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder in the population, second only to Alzheimer's disease. The condition manifests globally, without distinction of gender, class, or race, affecting approximately 1% of the population over 60. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of 99mTc-Trodat-1 in the early and differential diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. It is a qualitative literature review based on scientific articles available in the Virtual Health Library (BVS), SciELO, and PubMed databases. Considering the high rate of errors (approximately 47% by qualified professionals) in the initial diagnosis through clinical analysis, the development of a gold standard test for the early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease would be extremely important, since early treatment for this pathology would slow the progression of motor and pre-motor symptoms and ensure a better quality of life for patients with this condition.
